This could save your relationship

Have you ever stepped outside of your personal relationships and took a good hard look at how they work (or don’t work)?

How are your communication skills? Do you talk all the time, or does he (or she)? Do either of you really listen to what the other is saying? Do you take them for granted?

After reading this post I felt compelled to share it with you. This may just save your relationship.

No matter your gender, if you are in a relationship, this one woman’s realization could help all of us with her powerful story….

This is a story of how one woman came to understand, through reflection, something that may be a challenge many marriages and relationships face. While this story is of a woman realizing how she was treating a man, this can be applied in any case to both genders.

Recipe and uses for natural vapor rub and unpetroleum jelly recipe

Do you use Vaseline?  Or are you a purist who refuses to use any petrol-type product or anything with mineral oil?

I love making my own products anyway, so my answer was a no-brainer.

Anything that I can make with my own ingredients is A+++’s over anything store-bought, but for those that don’t mind read on.

Vaseline (also know as petroleum jelly) has been in use since the 1860’s. A chemist from New York, who upon visiting an oil rig, noticed the raw material of petrolatum (a gooey substance known as “rod wax”) stuck to the drilling rigs. After much experimentation, he developed a process to distill the rod wax into petrolatum.

What is petroleum jelly?

Also called petrolatum or soft paraffin, petroleum jelly is a mix of mineral oils, paraffin, and microcrystalline waxes. With a melting point of just above 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit, it literally melts on the skin, in the process, filling the gaps in the lipid barrier. It doesn’t really add any moisture to skin, but keeps it from naturally losing moisture to evaporation (for instance, in extremely dry weather) and also serves as a protective barrier, keeping harsh cold weather and wind out. It is a by-product of oil production.

However, petrolatum is also highly associated with carcinogens, i.e. studies have shown it can cause cancer.
It is refined into petroleum jelly that you buy in the Vaseline tub through very specific processes. This refining is done by a number of sources.

This refining is also the key to the carcinogenic classification by the European Union in its ‘Dangerous Substance Directive.’ Since petrolatum is derived from oil, it needs to be refined. Some of the methods for this refining and some methods of petrolatum production, have been shown to contain hazardous, toxic or carcinogenic components. One of the most notable contaminants, PHAs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons), have been linked to cancer.
Yet, these contaminants are removed in the refining process. Thus, the product Vaseline itself is NOT carcinogenic, never has been, and never will be, if handled and refined properly. –Samantha from makeupandbeauty.com

Everyone has their own opinion of petroleum jelly, and some consider it unsafe; such as DR. OZ.

the dangers of Petroleum Jelly from Dr. Oz:

Petroleum jelly is a byproduct of oil drilling, and when you spread it on your lips, you end up eating it, which is essentially the same as drinking gasoline. Add up the amount of lip-gloss the average woman uses (and consumes) over a decade, and it equals 7 pounds. The European Union has banned many petroleum jelly products, and experts are concerned they could be linked to cancer. Women with breast cancer have twice the levels of hydrocarbons (substances found in petroleum jelly) in their breasts than women who haven’t had breast cancer. Steer clear of any products that list petroleum jelly or mineral oil on the ingredient list.     ~~~Dr. Oz

Ok, so no matter how you feel about it, I have a great recipe for a perfect unpetroleum jelly that works just as well as Vaseline and you ask…how do we get the great benefits of this wonder product without harming our bodies?

Here’s a great all purpose recipe for the best UNpetroleum jelly, and the only one you’ll ever need. Plus, read on for more than 50 uses for this all-around must have item.

UN-petroleum jelly recipe

1/4 cup oil or 2 oz.  of  Coconut oil (or favorite carrier oil will do) I like to use organic coconut oil for its extended shelf life, but you can use more than one oil if you choose (like olive and coconut, or sweet almond and hazelnut, or any carrier oils you like!)

1 tablespoon vitamin e oil

1/2 oz beeswax or even candililla wax (vegan alternative) or  Carnauba Wax Natural-Vegan- hardest wax

Directions:

Warm oils and waxes to melt together (over double boiler) or use pyrex glass measuring cup in microwave in short bursts so the oils and waxes don’t burn.  Pour into 2 oz. container, cool, and use within 6-8 months. This recipe can be doubled, tripled, or even halved for your convenience. If you like a harder product; use less oil and more wax, and for softer spread, use more oil and less wax.

Use just like Vaseline or petroleum jelly. You can even add some essential oils to make your own Vicks.

Vicks vapor rub is basically petroleum jelly with camphor, eucalyptus oil and menthol.  The three most important ingredients in Vicks, relieve congestion and coughing when breathed in. The product also works as a good topical analgesic for other issues like:

Headaches- rub a bit on the temples,  and for sinus headache,  rub a little under the nose.

Muscle aches-  rub into sore muscles to soothe aching muscles

Ear aches- for minor ear ache add a bit to a cotton ball and place in ear every night till symptoms subside

Dry cracked heels- rub into just showered or soaked wet skin and cover with socks over night

Toenail fungus- rub into just washed feet and cover with socks overnight till problem subsides.

And more!  Like chest colds,  flu,  fever,  colds,  etc.  Rub on chest,  under nose and bottom of feet then wear socks to bed.

 Vapor Rub Recipe

Melt wax and oils in double boiler, remove and  stir in essential oils and menthol crystals. Pour into jars.

Also is great for pumpkin carvings:
Once you carve your Halloween pumpkin, rub Vaseline on the exposed edges. it keeps it from rotting or going dry.

OTHER USES :

Keep an outdoor light bulb from sticking
Have you ever unscrewed a light bulb and found yourself holding the glass while the metal base remains in the socket? It won’t happen again if you remember to apply petroleum jelly to the base of the bulb before screwing it into the fixture. This is an especially good idea for light bulbs used outdoors.

Remove watermarks on wood
Your most recent party left lots of watermark rings on your wood furniture. To make them disappear, apply petroleum jelly and let it sit overnight. In the morning, wipe the watermark away with the jelly.

Around the House
Take out lipstick stains
You set the table at that lovely dinner party with your favorite cloth napkins, but your girlfriends left their mark all over them. Now dotted with lipstick stains, those napkins may be headed for the trash. But try this first. Before you wash them, blot petroleum jelly on the stain. Launder as usual and hopefully you will kiss the stains good-bye.

Eject wax from candlesticks
The long red tapers you used at last night’s candlelit dinner were a beautiful sight until you saw the candle wax drippings left in the candle holders. Next time apply petroleum jelly to the insides of the holders before you put the candles in. The wax will pop out for easy cleaning.

Remove chewing gum from wood
Did you discover bubble gum stuck under the dining room table or behind the headboard of Junior’s bed? Trouble yourself about it no further. Squeeze some petroleum jelly on the offending wad, rub it in until the gum starts to disintegrate, then remove.

Keep a bottle lid from sticking
If you’re having a hard time unscrewing that bottle of glue or nail polish, remember this tip for when you finally do get it open. Rub a little petroleum jelly along the rim of the bottle. Next time, the top won’t stick.

For Personal Grooming
Moisturize your lips and more
If you don’t want to pay a lot for expensive lip balm, makeup remover, or even facial moisturizer, then your answer is a tube of petroleum jelly. It can soothe lips; take off foundation, eye shadow, mascara, and more. It will even act as a moisturizer on your face.

Make emergency makeup
Oh no! You’ve run out of your favorite shade of eye shadow. What do you do now? It’s easy — make your own. Add a bit of food coloring to petroleum jelly and apply as usual. This is a quick way to make stopgap blush, lipstick, or eye shadow.

Lengthen the life of perfume
You’ve picked out a great scent to wear on your night out, but it’s got to last. Worry not. Dab a bit of petroleum jelly on your pulse points. Then spray on the perfume. Now you can dance the night away and not worry about your perfume turning in early.

Soften chapped hands
If you’re constantly applying hand lotion to your tired, chapped hands, but then taking it off again so you can get more work done, try this tip. Apply a liberal amount of petroleum jelly to your hands just before you go to bed. By morning, they’ll be soft and smooth.

Smooth wild eyebrow hairs
If you have runaway eyebrows — the ones where the hairs won’t lie flat but curl up instead, control the wildness with some petroleum jelly. Rub a dab into your brows. They’ll calm down and behave.

Heal wind burned skin
You’ve just had a glorious hike through the countryside in autumn. And as much as you enjoyed the changing colors of the season, the hike has left you with an unpleasant souvenir: windburn. Grab a jar of petroleum jelly and apply it liberally to your face or wherever you’ve been chapped. The jelly helps relieve the pain.

Use as a lube
Of course you crafty fags from the 1970′s have been using Vaseline as a lubricant. Hence that is why all these 70 year old queens have the face of an shriveled apple but the cocks of a fifteen year old. LOL!!!!!!!!!! I would not recommend using them with condoms, but as a gel to masturbate with it is extremely handy. (Courtesy of Hedda Lettuce; http://heddalettuce.com/?p=4063)

Feel Great, Lose Weight and Boost Metabolism

Hi there! Thanks for checking this out. This article, too is one of the many homeless orphans from my Yahoo repertoire and this seemed like the best place for it. Please be patient with me as I’m still updating links and adding new places for them. There are tons to weed through, so if a link doesn’t work, please know I am working on it :)Your patience is much appreciated!

walking © Andrzej Burak

The beginning of a new year gives us all sorts of inspiration to start things off right. What better time to give your body the care it deserves? Start off with a regiment that will help you feel great inside and out.

Possibly the best way to feel great, lose weight and boost metabolism is to get moving. Even a walking regimen to get things going is better than sitting at your computer.
Walking will not only make you feel great inside and out, but will melt the pounds off, give a boost to your metabolism as well as your immune system, bring you closer to nature, and have long lasting benefits on your physical and spiritual health.
Just by adding a movement regimen to your daily routine, you can burn fat and build muscle which speeds up your metabolism and helps you to continue to burn fat even when you’re sleeping.

That should grab your attention, ….yes…while you’re sleeping your body can still be burning fat!

Read on to find out how you can benefit your mind, body and spirit while losing weight and feel great again.

Things You’ll Need:

  • walking shoes
  • 30-60 min. / day

Step 1 : TAKE STOCK OF YOUR HEALTH

If you are just starting a walking regimen it’s always wise to check with your doctor first to make sure you are physically able to accomplish your mission. Most times and most people are able to start a walking regimen with no problems, but if there is any doubt; check with a physician.

Step 2 : START BY STRETCHING AND BREATHING

Always begin any routine with some kind of deep breathing and stretching, don’t laugh about the breathing. Breathing is a very important part in helping to get the body ready for anything. Not only will this benefit muscles and surrounding tissue, but will get your heart going and primed for action. Make sure to take at least three deep breaths (in through the nose, out through the mouth, counting to five on the in and out). Then stretch out every muscle from top to bottom, breathing with each repetition.

Step 3 : START WALKING

Whether it’s around your block, at a beautiful park close by, at a gym, or anywhere you feel comfortable, it doesn’t matter, just start walking! Not only is walking fantastic for your heart (it cuts your risk of heart disease) it’s great for lessening your chances of cancer (all types), even diabetes and strokes. All that by just walking! Walking at a moderate pace for 30-60 minutes is great. But if you’re just starting, even slow walking will burn approximately 100 calories per mile for a 180 pound person. Once you get a routine going you’ll notice that your weight will plateau and after a time the body has adjusted to that movement; it’s because you can only get so far with your weight loss by walking. Increase your walking time and distance as time progresses as walking is a perfect starting place, but once your body has become accustomed to the activity, it will adapt and to lose anymore weight you’ll have to kick it up a notch. But by this time your body will be craving more than just walking and you’ll be loving how your new body feels and how you feel because of it.

Step 4 ADD RESISTANCE TRAINING

KAI Moves (www.Kaimoves.com), NIA (Neuromuscular Integrative Action, Yoga and Pilates are perfect candidates for this when you don’t want to have the highly muscled body of a weightlifter or Miss Universe. What is Kai? (rhymes with “sky”). In Hawaiian it means”Ocean”. In Japanese it means “Opening”. In Swahili it means “Loveable”. Simply put Kai is a creative dance fitness class that offers non-traditional benefits. That is just one way to add and extra burst to your health, body-mind-and-soul.

Resistance training doesn’t have to include dumbbells and weight lifting machines. Both Pilates and Yoga offer “core strengthening” by using your own body weight as resistance, and both Kai moves and NIA offer fun, dancing and aerobic activity to the meditational workouts. There are so many added benefits of resistance training like; better posture, mood, increased metabolic rate, bone density all while toning and defining the muscles. Yoga, Pilates, Kai Moves, and NIA also offer wonderful side effects of mental, emotional and spiritual connections to your inner self adding personal growth to the long list of benefits. If you are just not into NIA, Kai, Yoga or Pilates, you can always try other types of exercise that will use a lot of oxygen (which burns fat) like swimming, rowing, running, biking, cross-country skiing, tennis, or whatever you enjoy that keeps you moving. Check Resources at the bottom of this article for more information.

Step 5 :TREAT YOUR BODY AS A TEMPLE

Your body is the temple for your soul. It is beautiful with all of it’s imperfections and perfections alike. Make sure to treat yourself in a loving way. Eat beautiful, healthy foods and give yourself time everyday to appreciate the wonders of your human body, mind and spirit. Thank your body for all the wonderful things it does for you. Treat it with respect and compassion.

Step 6 : HAVE FUN!

Don’t forget to HAVE FUN! If you get in a rut or start losing interest in a certain exercise or routine, change it up! Try dancing while making dinner, that will heat things up! The ingredients you need to make a meal are located all over your kitchen, so why not boogie over to the pantry and do a shimmy-shake with your rice, then try some squats to retrieve your pots and pans. Or how about a slide on over to the fridge to grab your gallon of water and lift it above your head and whoo hoo, switch hands! Now you’re getting into it!
Or instead of boring same-old, same-old cleaning your house, try lunges and dancing through housework. (I love waltzing, and dancing to classical music when vacuuming, and sometimes I’ll put on a funky groove, or whatever I’m in the mood for to get moving while doing chores). Get creative and have a ball and get your kids, friends and family involved, they’ll love it.
Or if your girlfriend calls, instead of standing or sitting there gabbing, walk around while chatting. Get in some steps while talking and you’ll be surprised at how much movement you can get into a regular conversation. Just try making it fun for yourself and enjoy moving every chance you get.

Step 7 : HEALTHY CHOICES

Try drinking a cup of green tea everyday while practicing positive affirmations. Green Tea has been studied for it’s weight loss and fat burning benefits and even raising metabolism naturally along with many other pluses.
Choose colorful foods and healthy snacks to get you through your day. And make sure to get plenty of sleep. Proper rest can help with stress, weight loss and overall well being. Also make sure to drink plenty of water!!! Water is key for a healthy mind/body/spirit. (Take your body weight, cut it in half, and drink that many ounces per day…eg.100 pound person should drink 50 ounces of water per day.)

Now smile and take a deep breath. Give thanks for your health.
You’re on your way to a better, happier you, and it will show.

Natural Holistic Remedies for Anxiety, Stress and Depression

Hi there! Thanks for being here and reading my articles. This article is one of the many homeless orphans from my Yahoo repertoire since its closing, and my blog seemed like the best home for it.   Please be patient, as I’m still updating links and adding new places for them. There are tons to weed through, so if a link doesn’t work, please know I am working on it 🙂 Your patience is much appreciated!

So, on with the holistic remedies for anxiety stress and depression! (lol…I may have to use some of these modalities myself dealing with all this stress of moving all my articles!!)

we dont see things as they are we see them as we are

There are so many natural and holistic remedies for all types of maladies these days that it is difficult to weed through all the bad or mis-information strewn across the web.

This series of articles, “Natural Holistic Remedies” will address only the “best of”, either through personal experience or gathered from trusted sources. I’ve been studying these types of holistic cures and aids for over 25 years and have discovered many new concepts as well as debunking some older (and some newer ones too). See the first article in the series Natural Holistic Remedies for Shingles at link below

Natural Holistic Remedies for Shingles

also check out : Essential oils for depression, using aromatherapy as a mood regulator;

More and more these days, plants are finding a medicinal purpose in our lives, people like natural cures rather than subjecting themselves to harsh man-made chemicals and pills, also keep in mind that around 30% of the ingredients that are added in conventional medicine are extracted from natural resources like plants and herbs. Holistic remedies are becoming more commonplace in the medical field and even many scientists after years of testing are concluding that alternative medicine is making headway as a tool in the “every-man’s preventative medicine chest”.

Anxiety, stress and depression are almost at record levels in our country, who knows if it’s because of the economy, the stressful atmospheres and workplaces we subject ourselves to, or even home-life? It could be a combination of all of these things. In any case, we are an over anxious, depressed society in desperate need of fresh air, nature, a good diet, some fun time, and most certainly restful sleep. A balance of these can make a world of difference.

Most people don’t think about it, but our diets, how we sleep, how much we work, to how much water we drink, especially with an excess of preservatives, sugar, nasty sugar substitutes, coffee, alcohol and/or junk foods can add to major imbalances in our mental and physical states of being. No matter the cause, there is hope…and without resorting to some of those more dangerous synthetic drugs.

Anxiety, stress and depression can have real life consequences and devastating effects on our spirits, minds and bodies that affect not only the entire scope of our lives, but those around us as well.

Our bodies house our whole self...including our spirit, and we should all treat our bodies with the deep respect we deserve, and we can feel better inside and out.

This is dealing with our problems ‘holistically” -including the “whole body” – mind, body and spirit- together, by using natural remedies and holistic aids, we are honoring our “whole-selves”.

First —–>Focus on the things you are thinking about…

Take notice of your thoughts fully, not in an over analyzing way, but notice when they get negative or self deprecating…or even if you notice anxious thoughts trying to rush in, just STOP immediately.

Take a deep breath.

Take another….

And another….

Then smile and tell yourself how wonderful and magical you are.

You are so special, and unique.

There is only ONE of you,

and there will only ever be ONE of you.

How beautiful, fantastic and glorious!

How marvelous that each of us are unique and spectacular creatures, all of us with individual characteristics that make each one of us so special, no two are alike !

And know this…….You are so loved.

No matter what…you are still loved.

Now, go on with your fabulous self and make each day count.

Do at least one good thing for yourself every single day.

And be sure read on to find more ways to combat anxiety and depression naturally.

Aromatherapy and Essential Oils for anxiety & depression:

Stop and Smell the Roses/ Get Refreshed by Nature's Energies

Essential oils are amazing. I’ve been using them and studying them for over 25 years, and still have only a small working knowledge of their wondrous attributes. They can help with so many things it’s no wonder they have been used for centuries, and knowledge of their uses have been passed down for ages .

Those little drops of miracles pack more punch in one drop than any other form of natural medicine.

There are many ways to use these wonderful little helpers for anxiety and depression.

If you’ve never used essential oils before, read a primer I wrote on essential oils, what they are and the difference between therapeutic grade and most “on the market” essential oils called Many Helpful Suggestions on Uses of Essential Oils  before delving into this article, it will save you lots of questions.

To see how essential oils can help with depression and anxiety see: Can Essential Oils Help with Depression & Anxiety? Using Aromatherapy as a Mood Regulator.

More natural ways to fight anxiety and depression:

 -Exercise!walking © Andrzej Burak

There’s nothing like the euphoric feeling of natural endorphins coursing through your system after physical exertion and exercise, they don’t call it “runner’s high” for nothing. And you don’t even have to actually run to get that “runner’s high” either…any form of physical exertion that gets your heart pumping will work wonders for your over-all morale, and a regular exercise program can  permanently change your state of mind, while bettering your body and spirit. Just getting outside and walking through the park can add a great deal of happiness to your day.

See my article “Feel Great, Lose Weight and Boost Metabolism” for more info.

– Herbal Supplements:

There are an abundance of resources on herbal remedies and supplements for anxiety and depression, and most I’ve seen are pretty good. Some herbs I know of off-hand that work well for stress, depression and anxiety include;

St. John’s Wort, Lavender, Chamomile tea, Valerian, Passionflower, Ginseng, and Lemon balm to name a few.

St Johns Wort can help with mild depression but medication and remedies can only help with the symptoms of depression — not the cause. Talk to a professional therapist who can help deal with the cause to find out the root causes of your depression and anxiety.
Also…..Some of the Bach Flower Remedies deal with anxiety as well – you could check out
http://www.bachcentre.com/centre/remedie…
http://www.bachflower.com/7_Groups.htm

-Omega-3 fatty acids:

Many doctors – whether Holistic, Alternative, Eastern or Western types- recommend adding Omega-3 fatty acids to our diets…it’s great for EVERYONE!!! Whether through supplements or part of a healthy diet consisting of fatty fish 2-to-3 times per week. Omega-3 Fatty acids are helpful for aiding depression, and many times are used as treatment for ADD-ADHD Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Arthritis, and many other maladies as well.

Emotional Freedom Technique

Many have anxiety and depression and have used an alternative therapy called Emotional Freedom Technique and it has really worked for many, and helped loads of people who rave about it. It’s very good at getting rid of all kinds of negative emotions and dealing with all kinds of issues quickly. It does sound bizarre but does work. Might be something that can help you.

– Diet & Nutrition:

Most of us don’t think about our food intake much, just when we’re hungry or thirsty, and what we eat or drink can have a large impact on not only our physical bodies and minds, but our mental states and spiritual states as well.

First and foremost…DRINK PLENTY OF WATER  everyday!

This is great for your entire body, mind and soul! Pure water is amazing for you. A great way to decide how much water your body actually needs is to figure your weight, cut it in half, and drink that many ounces of water per day. For instance, if you are 100 pounds, drink 50 oz of water per day. There are tons of resources across the world that are easy to find on the benefits of staying hydrated, and how water is helping literally every single cell in your body.

When it comes to our diet—- sugar, sugar substitutes, coffee, alcohol and/or junk foods are the first things we should cut out or at least try to cut back on majorly to bring our “spirit’s up”. These tend to give us a false sense of well-being for very short time periods and we end up crashing…you know the drill… “gotta’ have that coffee in the morning to get me going”…isn’t going to really work after a couple hours.

Wouldn’t you rather have sustained energy and a good feeling about what you’re putting into your bodies? Try tea first thing, and add a vitamin packed smoothie or protein shake in the morning. It’s true that eating lots of nuts, beans and vegetables high in magnesium, especially leafy green vegetables and avoiding spicy foods can aid in fighting depression.

So yeah, I know it’s tough because everything seems to have it, but no sugar, and especially NO processed foods, alcohol or super spicy foods. And be sure to eat lots of fresh veges and fruits along with proteins in a balanced way. There are literally thousands of sites dedicated to what types of food help with anxiety and depression. A quick search will give you hundreds of balanced diet plans.

A wonderful website I found on treating anxiety and depression with nutrition and diet is at; Diet Treatment for Anxiety and Depressionhttp://www.ctds.info/anxiety_depression.html, also a great book

Can Essential Oils Help with Depression? Using Aromatherapy as a Mood Regulator

—–> Before using any essential oils, please read this helpful primer: Uses of Essential Oils:

Originally from my Yahoo repertoire, I decided to add this gem to my blog. Happy new year!Essential Oils for the Different Types of Skin

With this article, I’ll show you how it’s possible to employ pure  essential oils to help ease depression and lessen anxiety, simply and naturally.

First things first, if you’ve never used essential oils before, read a primer I wrote on essential oils, what they are and the difference between therapeutic grade and most “on the market” essential oils called “Many Helpful Suggestions on Uses of Essential Oils” before delving into this article, it will save you lots of questions. (Since my links/articles are still orphaned and looking for homes, for the purposes of safety, and if you are not familiar with essential oils please research them before using these potent beauties. Some may be harmful if used incorrectly.

Robert Tisserand, Kurt Schnaubelt, and a few other professionals have authored some incredibly informative books if you plan on using e.o.s on a regular basis.  See Recommmended Reading page here; https://yellowstaressentials.wordpress.com/recommended-reading/

More and more these days, plants are finding a medicinal purpose in our lives, people like natural cures rather than subjecting themselves to harsh man-made chemicals and pills.

A depressed emotional state is a common reason for using complementary and alternative therapies today. A wide range of psychological, physical, and energetic issues can lead to feelings of depression and a pervasive outlook of negativity. Moreover, once in a state of depression, patterns can arise that make relief all the more difficult to find. The use of essential oils for uplifting the psyche and spirit is becoming more widespread because of the oils’ broad and dramatic effects. While the oils themselves may not directly affect the underlying cause of depression, they may help individuals break free from depressive cycles – they may provide the impetus to ‘get off the couch’, so to speak, and begin creating long lasting change.”Ananda Apothecary

Can essential oils help with anxiety?

The short answer is yes. The how and why are a bit more scientific, but suffice to say that it’s true what they say, “your nose knows”. You’ve definitely experienced this before. A good example would be smelling a freshly baked apple pie and remembering Grandma’s house in the country when you were just a kid. That’s your limbic system at work. Basically, your sense of smell is the shortest and quickest way into your brain, including your memory banks, through the limbic system ( which is the seat of the emotional center and is partly responsible for our our emotional reaction to something, our fight or flight response, our hormonal secretions, motivation, pain reflex and our mood fluctuations). Some essential oils have thousands of chemicals contained within a tiny drop, and some have only a few, but they all have purposes, and can all cause strong reactions when inhaled or used on the skin.

Can essential oils help with depression?

Again, the short answer is yes they can, in the same way they can help with anxiety, essential oils can also aid in reducing melancholy and heightening happy feelings or uplifting your mood by pure science of chemistry. Just knowing what chemicals to use, and that they are pure therapeutic grade essential oils can really ‘make or break’ the deal. Essential oils are really just natural science by God, given to us as “medicine” whether it be for the body (physical), mind (mental), or spirit (emotional and spiritual).

The best therapeutic grade essential oils to use to lift your spirits and put you in a better mood are as follows:

Essential Oils that are Antidepressant mood regulators:

Rose or rose otto – the best ‘heart opener’, aids with joy, uplifts and restores balance
Orange– any citrus oil uplifts and brightens your mood, they are ‘sun in a bottle’, grounding, nourishing, energizing
Bergamot – relaxes nerves and refreshes the spirit
Geranium – like rose, wonderful for work of the heart
Mandarin – another citrus uplifter, but with a more mellow property, works wonders on children
Lemon – super sunshine in a bottle, very uplifting, grounding, nourishing, energizing
Neroli (orange blossom) – comforts the mind and heart, natural tranquillizer for shock, depression or anxiety
Chamomiles – grounding and uplifting

Essential Oils for Anxiety or Stress

Lavender – calming, regenerating, balancing
Chamomiles – remarkable calming effects
Clary Sage – calming, relaxing, balancing,
Geranium – calming, balancing, protecting
Rose or rose otto
Mandarin – wonderful for calming children too
Lemon – refreshing and gentle calming
Bergamot- relaxing, uplifting
Vetiver -very calming, centering, and stabilizing
Neroli– nourishing to spirit and soul, cooling and calming
Palmarosa – calming and uplifting nerves, reduces anxiety
Sweet Marjoram – sedative and toning, immediate calming effect
Frankincense– warming, calming, quieting, awakens the spirit, centering, meditative, new enlightenment of self and encourages an unconditional love
Coriander- healing and anti-inflammatory, aids feelings of security to anyone who is not grounded and calms the spirit

How to use these essential oils for anxiety or depression

There are a variety of ways you can use these essential oils to aid in mood regulation. Two being: INHALATION AND TOPICAL APPLICATION.

Diffusers-Inhalation

One of the simplest ways is to use a diffuser for your personal or work space. Most are quite simple to use either by adding water and a few drops of essential oil, and plugging it in, or by a candle warming the water and oil mixture. You can find them just about anywhere now, from the grocery store to ebay and Amazon , aromatherapy stores or specialty stores. Click Here To Visit Diffuser World.

NebulizersInhalation

There are also nebulizers which are even better at dispersing essential oils into the air.

Car DiffusersInhalation

These plug right into your cigarette lighter or extra power source in your dash or console of your car. Take the fresh scent with you and brighten up your day instead of complaining about traffic. After diffusing something like lemon or peppermint in your car I guarantee you’ll spark right up and have a smile on your face.

Topical Application:

Best used by adding essential oils to an unscented lotion, aloe vera gel or diluted with an oil, for example, getting a massage.

Straight application:

Although this method is not recommended often as essential oils are potent and may be too strong for some people. Many are sensitive to the extreme potency of a therapeutic grade essential oil, but if you’re feeling brave and have used essential oils before (especially Lavender, one of the safest out there) then feel free to use a couple drops in your palms and rub together to release the scent. You can dab it under your nose, rub a couple drops into your wrists or the like. I would only try this with the following oils:

Lavender, Rose, Neroli, Geranium, Lemon, Mandarin, (almost any citrus oil, but beware citrus oils are phototoxic; meaning don’t wear them in the sun)

Massage:

There is so much I could say about the wonders of massage…but I don’t want to lose you so I’ll just say that if you can get one, DO! They are the best preventative medicine available to us and with the use of essential oils added to your massage lotion, gel or oil, you won’t believe the miracles that can happen. Just ask any Massage Therapist or “Raindrop Technique Therapist” and you’ll get an ear-full of how magical a massage can be. If your loved one is giving the loving massage, use a MAXIMUM of, or no more than 8-10 drops per oz. as essential oils are very potent. It’s better to use less and add more if needed. Just choose your carrier oil, gel or unscented lotion and add your choice of therapeutic grade essential oils and mix well.

Remember, it’s always better to try than to give up, so smile and know someone is thinking of you and wishes the very best for your health and well-being!
