Best Essential Oils for Insect Bites and Natural Insect Repellent Recipe

Warmer weather brings out the insects, and no one enjoys the stings and bites from these critters, so here are a few natural remedies and recipes for mosquitoes, biting flies, gnats/no-see-ums, and ant bites, as well  as a great natural insect repellent recipe.

There are too many dangerous chemicals included in most of the over-the-counter repellents and remedies for insect bites, and since more and more people are choosing natural-sourced ingredients, I’ve put together the best recipes and remedies in one place so you won’t have to look any further than here.
Get specific medical information about the active ingredients in repellents and other pesticides by calling the National Pesticide Information Center (NPIC) at 1-800-858-7378. Catnip Essential Oil, Nepeta cataria, is from the mint family and has been used in folk medicine to help relieve headaches, migraines, cramps and fever. It is known as Catmint in the UK. Recently, Catnip Essential Oil has been studied for its unparalleled effectiveness in repelling mosquitoes and other insects.

Make your own nearly all-natural insect repellent: Using a 4 oz. bottle with sprayer top, combine 10 drops Lemon Eucalyptus, 5 drops Geranium, 5 drops Catnip and 10 drops Cedarwood Virginia into 1.5 oz. high proof alcohol and 1.5 oz. water. Essential oils do not stay dispersed in water or alcohol. Be sure that you shake well before each use and discontinue use immediately if irritation occurs.  Polysorbate 20 can be used to help keep the essential oils emulsified.
